YourMondayMotivator: Who do you identify with?

By | Inspiration, MondayMotivator | No Comments

This weekend I went to the Hampton Downs to watch the 2kCup races.

I wore a team shirt.

I hadn’t wanted to wear a team shirt in the weeks leading up to the weekend and I wasn’t sure why. Then I realised it was because I hadn’t earned it. I also realised I was reluctant to identify myself with any particular team. How interesting.

Yesterday though the guys asked me to pick something up for them because I was heading out later … for that that they gave me a shirt. I took it. I was going to earn it. Tick.

But the ‘identifying’ thought hit me this morning. I will be wearing my allegiance to a team. A team that will probably win – good – a team that is really well known in racing circles – good – but still a team.

People will know. This isn’t just a t-shirt this is a sponsored mechanics team shirt. You can only get one if you’re part of the team. Kinda scary for me because I’ve always done my own thing since I left one of the biggest teams in NZ – the RNZAF.

However after thinking this all through I know I am happy to be supporting, and part of, a team of guys who know how to win and how to have a good time doing it.

Lately the whole country has identified with ETNZ. It’s brought families and a country together. That is a good thing. Worth a lot more than the money involved.

Are you part of a team? Do you identify with a group that work hard, take things seriously and keep you smiling? A team that keep syou on your toes, looking ahead and improving?

If you are awesome! If you don’t feel like you are – maybe it’s time to look for one.

Have a great week.

YourMondayMotivator: A collective arrgh!

By | Inspiration, MondayMotivator | No Comments

This yachting is stressful. The Oracle team are sailing for their life and it really shows. Agressive, tactical and on the limit of making a massive mistake that could easily let Team New Zealand win.

Team New Zealand are sailing the best they can with what they have and just couldn’t seem to make the most of their two opportunities. Fickle wind doesn’t help the cause.

So considering how you’re probably feeling now, argh, what must Team New Zealand be feeling?

Have you ever been in a situation like this? On the verge of winning and having things not quite go your way. Not likely right. Because not all of us have been at the very peak of a sport and had the weight of an entire nation on our shoulders.

This is a unique position and in my opinion we can only yell our support and hope the team pick up on our energy.

Not much work will be happening this morning but I think sometimes it’s better to be: hanging out with people who are holding their breath with you, yelling when the gap is closed and sitting back when they don’t quite make it.

Have a great week and go Team New Zealand!

YourMondayMotivator – Work at speed

By | Inspiration, MondayMotivator | No Comments

Last weeks lesson from my business advisor was speed. That is working at pace with faster turnaround times for quotes and decisions.

He had been in San Francisco for the week working with some well-known New Zealand start-ups and realised the biggest difference between New Zealand and US business was the pace it’s done at.

People over there are working quickly. Everything is done with a sense of urgency New Zealand business people seem to lack. Maybe it’s the beaches, barbeques and lifestyle we all enjoy.

However, after thinking about where I could employ that thinking in my business I realised as an online company we are already working at a faster pace than most. The speed at which things can be measured, tweaked and changed is far faster than most businesses. That’s an advantage for our clients.

So this week think about where you could add more pace in what you do. Could you make decisions faster? Could you get back to people faster? Where could speeding up make a difference that will add value to your life and those around you as you become more decisive and more energised.

Have a great week.

YourMondayMotivator: Fathers Day + bacon and eggs.

By | Inspiration, MondayMotivator | No Comments

Fathers Day. You know it just doesn’t seem to have the same ‘oompf’ as Mothers Day. Maybe because men are like the chickens in a meal of bacon and eggs, and women are the pigs.

Stay with me here.

In a meal of bacon and eggs the chicken is involved, eggs, but the pig is committed, bacon.

Toolbox

There is a big difference between being involved and being committed and the bacon and egg story illustrates it very well. You’re probably reading this at work now and ready to launch into the week. So have a think for a second – are you going to be committed today, or just involved?

If you want to raise your energy levels, move forward and be ‘awake’, you need to be a Pig. Commit yourself to what you are doing and the difference will be staggering. You won’t be able to do it 100% all the time but if you aim for that every day your life will change. Relationships will become easier. Work will be exciting, engaging.

It does take a change of mindset to become committed. I’m not syaing it’s easy. But the results will be huge.

Have a great week.
